Prevalence and factors associated with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis in golfers: A cross-sectional study among professional golfers in Kenya

Objectives: Golf has been associated with abnormal loading conditions to the knee joint due repetitiveness and biomechanical requirements of golf swing. This study seeks evaluate prevalence factors attributing symptomatic osteoarthritis among professional golfers in Kenya. Materials Methods: Participants included all Kenya above 18 years. Golfer’s demographics golf-related characteristics were recorded both knee’s function assessed using Knee Injury Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS). a KOOS <85% two or more parameters underwent bilateral plain radiographic assessment graded according Kellgren Lawrence (K&L) classification. Results: Fifty participants recruited. All male, only left handed, median age was 41 years (34–49). More than half found have body mass index (BMI) greater 25 kg/m 2 . The average duration active participation 16.5 (SD = 4.2). Eighteen out 100 knees scored KOOS. According K&L, 72% had Grade above. Duration involvement (OR – 1.114) BMI 1.107) be positively although not statistically significant ( P 0.289 0.3481).
